General Info

Saigon House Restaurant, located at 15001 Farnsworth St in San Leandro, CA, is a true hidden gem for anyone who craves authentic Vietnamese flavors. Tucked into a modest strip mall, this restaurant delivers far more than its simple exterior suggests. Inside, guests are welcomed with friendly service and a menu that balances tradition and variety, making it a favorite spot for locals who often order without even glancing at the menu.

One of the standout dishes here is the Bun Bo Hue, a spicy beef noodle soup known for its rich broth infused with lemongrass. The depth of flavor, especially when paired with the house-made chili sauce, elevates this dish to a must-try experience. Regulars even enjoy customizing it by substituting pho noodles, allowing the broth to cling perfectly to each bite. Of course, if you’re after something more classic, the Pho is hearty and comforting, a reliable go-to for anyone craving warmth in a bowl.

Beyond noodle soups, the restaurant offers an array of dishes that showcase both creativity and tradition. The beef short ribs with garlic noodles bring together savory tenderness and fragrant seasoning, making it a crowd favorite. Another highlight is the nem nuong pork spring rolls, with crispy elements reminiscent of famous Southern California spots like Brodard’s, offering an irresistible combination of freshness and crunch. For those who want to explore further, dishes such as bun rieu (crab and tomato noodle soup) and short rib pho present flavors that are equally satisfying without overwhelming portions.

The dining experience at Saigon House is enriched by its welcoming owners. Guests often note the personal touch, with the owner speaking Vietnamese, Cantonese, and English, ensuring a warm, inclusive atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where regulars are recognized, new visitors are treated like family, and every meal feels prepared with care.

Though the décor might feel a little dated and parking can be limited, the quality of the food and the hospitality more than make up for it. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick spring roll snack, sitting down for a steaming bowl of pho, or diving into the bold flavors of Bun Bo Hue, Saigon House Restaurant offers an experience that blends comfort, tradition, and a touch of home-cooked love.

What customers say?

“ What a great place to eat, food amazing, service quick and friendly and the atmosphere was vibrant. I ordered the combination pho and the broth was next level. Oh Yhea do t forget to order the tai tea so much to chose from on menu I can’t wait to try something else next time in town. ”

“ Friendly service, lots of different food options. The nem nuong pork spring roll has crispy bits similar to Brodards in SoCal. We ordered beef short ribs pho #66, bun rieu #34, and pork spring roll #4NM. Food was good, the portion was just right without the food coma afterwards. The owner is very friendly, he speaks Cantonese, Vietnamese and English. Many locals and regulars come here, sit down and order without looking at the menu. The restaurant is located at a small strip mall with limited parking. The decor looks dated, but the food is good and hits the spot. ”

“ This place has a special place in my heart. I stumbled on this place while having to take a detour due to the freeway closure when I used to drive Long Haul from LA to Oakland Daily. I made a mental note and came back a month later after I remembered where it was. Man, oh man, the gem this place is. I originally wanted their Pho, and it's very good Pho. But let me tell ya, their Bun Bo Hue was by far my favorite thing to have there. The depth of flavor of the beef and lemon grass in that broth had me.. and the chili sauce the owners wife makes is next level when you add it to this soup. I always ask for extra broth because why not. I know this is wrong, but I like Subbing out the Bun Bo noodle for the Pho noodle. Just clings on to the broth much better, so each bite and slurp are that much tastier. ”

“ I recently tried out Saigon House and really enjoyed my meal. The seating outside seemed nicely covered and cool, while the interior has a lot of personality from its classic all wood counter to the many plants hanging around the windows and sills. The service was prompt and friendly. The owners seem to generally be taking orders or hanging around and are friendly, funny and talkative. I found that to make for a good dining experience personally as it added to the local, mom/ pop vibe present at this restaurant. We ordered a spread of food- the pho is really good. The brother is on the lighter side and not overly savory/ aromatic with a slight sweetness, so if that fits your palette, I believe you would enjoy it. The herbs and added items were generous and I got a good amount of meat in the bowl too. The bun bo hue was equally delicious, with a good flavor though did not have the trotter or pork blood which I always love to see as an add-in. The Korean BBQ Garlic Noodles surprised me and so I had to give them a try- the meat was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the noodles were good, albeit slightly dried out over the course of our meal. The Vietnamese coffee here is really great, and the banh mi was also delicious and had a nice sweetness to them. Overall, I loved eating here from the atmosphere and service to the pretty solid meal too. If you are thinking of trying out this place, I would recommend doing so. ”

“ Great food and nice people short ribs with garlic noodles is an excellent choice ”

“ Stopped by this place for a quick lunch while on a business trip in San Leandro. Awesome service. The owner is so nice and friendly. Food is also great! I ordered Number 42 with a Thai Tea. ”

“ This is one of the best pho places I’ve tried in the Bay Area. When they brought the broth to our table, I could immediately smell its incredible aroma — you can tell it’s made with fresh herbs, not from a premade soup base. It tasted exactly like what my family makes at home, with that authentic herbal fragrance you expect from proper pho. Everything was super delicious. We’re so glad to have discovered a new pho spot for our family! ”
